When you post content on social media, a lot of time and effort has gone into it. Few comments and likes are the numbskull of the day. However, this does not necessarily have to be due to your content. It can also have to do with the time of day and even the day. In addition, every target group is different. What are the best (and worst) times on average to post something on social media?

There is no short answer to this question. It differs per social media platform which times work well and which do not. It is also important to keep in mind that the following figures are guidelines and there may be a difference per target audience. In order to obtain more target audience-specific information, you can request statistics from the social media platform in question. The results below come from an American study aimed at social media marketing.


Facebook is still a popular platform for distributing information and for advertising. If you also want to use this medium, it is best to post from Thursday to Sunday. If you want to get a higher involvement in your posts, then Saturday and Sunday are the days you have to keep. If you plan to post a funny post, it is better to keep it for Friday. People come in the weekend mood and are therefore generally positive.


When it’s best to post something on Twitter depends very much on your target audience. In case it is a B2B (business to business) message, it is best to tweet it during working hours. Then it will perform 16% better. B2C (business to customer) messages perform 17% better on Saturdays and Sundays. Tweets also seem to do very well on Wednesdays. In this case it is best to tweet between five and six and around noon.


The best time to use LinkedIn is from Tuesday to Thursday. Mondays and Fridays turn out to be bad days when you are looking for high engagement. To really optimize the result of your message, it is best to post between seven and eight in the morning, around noon and between five and six in the evening.


Instagram is still booming business. Who doesn’t like to scroll across the timeline to see all the recent posts? Still, this platform has its peak hours. If you like to use Instagram, it’s best to post on Monday and/or Thursday. Avoid Sunday in any case. When it comes to time, you should take refuge between eight and nine o’clock in the morning. Whatever you do, do not post between 3 and 4 in the afternoon. These are the dead hours of the day. Try to post as much as possible outside working hours.
